Waste Reduction Week 2026

Southgate Celebrates Waste Reduction Week 2026!

This week, we are highlighting a different way each day that residents can reduce waste and make use of the programs available in our community. As part of Circular Economy Month, Southgate has highlighted important themes for residents.

πŸ”΅ October 19 – More to Recycle!
Take advantage of expanded blue bin recycling through Circular Materials, including paper, cardboard and boxboard, metal, plastic containers and flexible plastics.

🌱 October 20 – Compost!
Residents can pick up compost at the Egremont Transfer Station, free of charge. A great way to give materials another purpose while helping your garden!

🍎 October 21 – Food Waste Goes in Organics!
Help turn food scraps into something useful. Countertop kitchen catchers are available at our Transfer Stations to make collecting organics at home easier.

♻️ October 22 – Give Items a Second Life!
*Before throwing something away, consider whether it can be reused. Used, functional items can be dropped off at the Reuse Centres at our Transfer Stations, while textiles can be placed in the Diabetes Canada donation bin.

πŸ’» October 23 – E-Waste Round Up!
Have old electronics ready to go? Electronics such as laptops, printers and TVs can be brought to both Transfer Stations for collection.

We all play a part in keeping useful materials in use longer and reducing waste. For more information about accepted materials, Transfer Station locations and hours, please visit our Waste and Recycling page.
*Please note that Dundalk Transfer Station will be at reduced capacity starting November 2, 2026. Please confirm items of disposal before attending this location.
