Curbside Cart Collection Calendar
The Township of Southgate utilizes a no-touch system for the collection of your recycle, waste and compost materials by providing carts for residents and businesses that are tipped on a weekly basis by our collection trucks. Carts must be at the curbside by 7:00 AM on your scheduled pick up day and should be placed 1 metre apart at the grass line or in your laneway.
The green compost cart is collected every week, and the blue recycle cart and grey garbage carts are collected on alternating weeks. Due to our no-touch system, if your materials are not contained in the individual cart, the truck will not dispose of those items. Only items that are in the cart will be taken.

Cart Placement and Snow Removal
Now that the winter season is upon us, it is important to place your carts correctly to allow for snow removal activities and to ensure the collection truck can access carts. This handy guide explains correct cart placement to make sure you don't miss your collection day.
Cart Issues and How to Fix Them
If one of your carts needs repair, please contact the Public Works Department for further information.
Why are carts not collected?
- Carts are overloaded - lids of carts must be closed to prevent spilling
- Carts are not set out properly for collection - carts should be placed with the wheels away from the road
- Carts are not close enough to the roadway for the arm on the truck to reach
- Carts are placed too close together - place carts 1 metre apart
- Carts are not out for collection by 7:00AM
