2026 Mayor's Budget
On April 9, 2025 the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing announced the expansion of strong mayor powers to the Township of Southgate. As a result, Part VI.1 of the Municipal Act, 2001, along with O.Reg. 530/22 was applied to the Township of Southgate. More information on Strong Mayor Power's in the Township can be viewed here.
Under Part VI.1 of the Municipal Act, 2001, the Mayor is responsible to propose the municipal budget, which would be subject to Council amendments and a separate Head of Council Veto and Council override process. The 2026 Budget timeline is outlined below.

Friday, January 30, 2026 | Mayors Budget Tabled - Mayor's budget is distributed to Members of Council and the Clerk, and posted publicly. Note: Budget is not tabled at a formal meeting of Council. Members of Council may propose amendments to the Mayor's Budget within a 30-day amendment window. | |
Wednesday, February 4, 2026 | 9:00AM | Council may propose amendments to the Mayor's Budget by a majority resolution. |
Wednesday, February 18, 2026 | 1:00PM | Council may propose amendments to the Mayor's Budget by a majority resolution. |
Sunday, March 1, 2026 | 30-day Amendment Period Ends - If NO amendments are received, the budget is deemed to be adopted by the Municipality. | |
Tuesday March 10, 2026 | Mayor's Veto Deadline - Last Day for the Mayor to veto amendments, with rational. | |
Wednesday, March 18, 2026 | 1:00 PM | Deadline for Members to Override Mayor's Veto (if any) - Any vetoes received will be an agenda items at the regular Council meeting; Council may vote to override the Mayor's veto with a 2/3 majority vote. |

We want to hear from you - The Township of Southgate is switching to more meaningful means of engagement with the public for the 2026 Budget process.
The Township of Southgate is currently working on the budget for the year 2026 and we'd like to know more about the priorities and preferences of you our residents, and this survey is your opportunity to have a say!
This survey focuses on services funded through your local municipal taxes (i.e., does not include federal, provincial or education taxes).
By taking part in this survey, you’ll help us understand how well municipal services are understood overall, how they are valued, and which ones are a priority for the people who live here.
There’s also plenty of opportunities to provide comments, so take a few minutes and tell us what you think.
The survey will take approximately 5 minutes to complete depending on your answers. Feedback from the survey will be shared with Township of Southgate Council, but no personal or identifying information will be collected nor shared.

2025 Budget Adopted
At the Township of Southgate Council meeting held on April 3, 2025, the Council adopted the 2025 budget at a 5.31% increase.
The approved budget outlines the allocation of taxpayer funds for the upcoming year, with a focus on maintaining and enhancing key community services. Residents are encouraged to view the below chart, that visually breaks down how ever dollar of tax revenue is spent across the various services and initiatives within the Township.
